Tracking Billionaire Air Fleets Through the FAA Registry
For researchers, journalists, and aviation enthusiasts, the FAA aircraft registration database offers a surprisingly detailed look at how the ultra-wealthy travel. Every aircraft registered in the United States carries a unique "N-number" tied to its owner, year of manufacture, and model. Taken together, these records sketch a clear picture of private aviation spending at the highest income levels. The Gulfstream G700 cohort
Among tech executives, the Gulfstream G700 has become the dominant aircraft of choice in recent registration data. Marc Benioff holds a 2025 model (N808XX), among the newest deliveries in the registry. Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg each registered 2024 G700s (N11AF and N3880, respectively). Elon Musk, by contrast, operates two older Gulfstream G650s — a 2015 model (N628TS) and a 2007 model (N272BG) — making his fleet one of the few in this peer group that hasn't been updated within the last two years.
Older airframes still in active service
Not all high-profile owners have moved toward recent deliveries. John Travolta's 1964 Boeing 707 (N707JT) and Magic Johnson's 1982 Gulfstream III (N32MJ) remain registered and operational. Oprah Winfrey took delivery of a 2024 G700 (N540W) but had long operated older models before doing so.
Commercial airliners in private hands
A smaller group bypasses business jets entirely. Drake (Aubrey Graham) operates two Boeing commercial aircraft: a 1996 Boeing 767 (N767CJ) and a 1990 Boeing 757 (N757CJ). Steven Spielberg runs a mixed fleet — a 2000 Boeing 737 (N800KS) alongside a 2015 Gulfstream G650 (N900KS).
Fleet strategies among family offices and institutional owners Walton Enterprises recently added a 2024 Dassault Falcon 7x/8x (N8X). The Bass family holds three 2019 Gulfstream G500s (N111SJ, N1L, N22B) — a standardized configuration uncommon among individual owners. Bill Gates' registered aircraft include a 2018 Gulfstream G650 (N887GV) as well as two Cessna 208 Caravans (N459WM, N897GV), turboprops suited to short or unpaved runways.
The 2025 delivery wave
The newest registrations include a 2025 Gulfstream G800 for Eugene A. Hall (N6HJ) and Eduardo Eurnekian (N380EE), and a 2025 Bombardier Global 7500 for Stephen Wynn (N1W). Len Blavatnik's fleet spans three aircraft types: a Boeing 737 (N737LE), a Boeing 777 (N777UK), and a 2024 Gulfstream G700 (N700LE). The Wilks Brothers hold three Bombardier Global Expresses (N490BA, N600NB, N311NB). The FAA registry is public and updated regularly. While ownership can be obscured through LLCs and trusts, it remains one of the most consistently available sources of data on high-net-worth asset holdings.
